Stainless steel shot rather than sand, in a dense knit shell with a wide hook-and-loop closure that actually holds through a side-lying series. Steel shot is heavier per volume than sand, so the cuff is slimmer and does not bunch behind the ankle.
One and a half pounds each. Heavier ankle weights change the shape of the movement rather than the load on it, which is the opposite of the point.
